Australia : Sydney Day Four

This was the day I thought Rachal might kill me in my sleep (figuratively of course).  I wanted to hike in the Blue Mountains National Park so bad to get outside and take in the scenery away from the city.

Getting There

We decided to take the two-hour train ride to get there, which was very easy to do.  Our iVenture pass (as talked about in my Day One post) included the large red hop-on-hop-off busses that took us from the train stop to various places in the National Park.  This worked well, but keep in mind that the busses stop running around 1700.

TIP: don’t rush your time here.  I suggest multiple days of lots of hiking, or if you’re really on a time crunch, one day of well-planned out bus hopping.

Three Sisters Peak

We got off the red bus a few times, and at Echo Point finally decided to do some real hiking (while also getting terribly lost).  This is where the famous Three Sisters Peak can be seen.  After you start descending the Stairway to Hell, you can reach a stopping point at the base of the peaks.  Then down, down, down, into the rabbit hole you go.  Stairs that seem to never end!

Leura Falls

After hearing about how awesome Leura Falls was, we decided to try and find it.  Our start point was Katoomba falls, and eventually we got to Leura, but we definitely took the unnecessarily long route.  Was it worth it?  Absolutely.  I got to jump (carefully, there’s a lot of moss on the rocks) into the waterfall and there was absolutely no one else there besides us.  All we had to do after that, was figure out how to get back to the train station.  There are a decent amount of trail signs in the Blue Mountains, and we ended up back towards civilization.  Finding one last waterfall, we ran into a couple that was from the area.  They even offered to give us a ride to a pub across from the train station!  You know, for Rachal’s celebratory beer of course.

Highly suggest heading out here if you’ve got the time during your trip to Sydney.

  1. Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking…really enjoyed the video! You and Rachel look so happy. 🙂 Glad I am not the only one that is slower than you…remember when we climbed Multnamoth Falls in Oregon. 🙂 Was the water very cold when you went in the waterfall?

    1. Thank you! It was an absolute blast. The water wasn’t too bad. Felt nice after getting slightly lost while hiking!
