Barbados : Hiking to Martin’s Bay

Let me start off by saying that I was NOT prepared for this length of hike by any means. I didn’t hydrate enough the day before, wasn’t in good enough shape, and my endurance wasn’t up to par like it used to be, or even as much as it is now. Even with all that being said, I made it from start to finish and it was TOTALLY worth it. The sights were incredible, the paths were challenging, and the Bay Tavern at the end was a great reward.

Whoops.

We only had one (could have been major) hiccup along the way, and that was me losing my phone without noticing. Searching for about half an hour retracing steps, we somehow managed to find it by accident (luck was clearly on my side) along the side of the trail. Needless to say, I won’t be using those short’s pockets to hold anything important ever again!

The Path.

Our starting point was at St. John’s Church where we overlooked the coastline of Barbados. From there, we weaved through neighborhoods and nature going from paved streets to tall grasses, and everything in between. We stopped by to explore an old water pump facility, and even got to chew on sugar cane en route. Towards the end of our hike, we traced the coastline climbing over wood plank bridges and skirting mini waterfalls. Finally, we reached our destination of the Bay Tavern where we drank a TON of water, and ate to our hearts content. Definitely recommend this scenic route to experience the beauty of Barbados to its fullest.
